The Jaycees Supershots basketball competition allows players to showcase their basketball talent
with scores based on shooting accuracy and speed. Because it is a Saturday during Lakes Area
Recreation's open gym, the facility will be open from 1 to 5 p.m. so in addition to the competition,
there will be plenty of time to just shoot around. Lakes Area Recreation will forego the cost
of the open gym to kids participating in the Supershots competition; therefore, it is free
and open to all boys and girls who participate. Registration will be held prior to the competition. Basketballs will also be provided and will be given away to the winners!
Winners will advance to the State Competition which will be held at Target Center, before an
upcoming Minnesota Timberwolves game, Sunday March 29th. They'll also get a chance to watch the
Timberwolves prepare for their game and will be allowed to participate in an autograph session with the
players. State champions will take part in a half-time skills demonstration at that evening's Timberwolves
game.
The Alexandria Jaycees are teaming up with United Way to help kids
returning to school this fall. This joint effort between the Jaycee's
Sharing Tree campaign and the United Way's "Stuff the Bus" program
should prove to be a great way to help out even more kids who need
school supplies and backpacks.
This is a community problem and therefore will take a community effort
to help remedy it.
This year, we will be attempting to help at least 250 kids.... and
hopefully alotmore; That all depends on the funds we receive from
people like you. The majority of the funds will go to help children
within the Alexandria area school district; however, if you'd like
contributions to go to a specific school, please indicate that as
well with your contribution.
The "Sharing Tree" will be on display at Wal-Mart from August 1st to
August 18th. People can stop in, pick a name off of the tree and buy
the supplies required for that specific child. History has taught us
that not everyone has the time to do this, so your funds can help all
of the children who don't get picked.
The "Stuff the Bus"bus will be parked outside of Wal-Mart the week of
August 18th through the 22nd. This will be another opportunity to drop
off needed school supplies. Because so many children fall through the
cracks when an effort of this magnitude takes place, the addition of
the "Stuff the Bus" program is so vital.
This program costs approximately $10,000 to run overall with cost
averaging about $40 per child. We are asking your (company/organization)
for either a monetary donation, participation in the Stuff the Bus or
Sharing Tree efforts firsthand, or by volunteering your time to help.
This program benefits children in need of school supplies.
Help us buy backpacks and school supplies for kids in need for
the 2008-2009 school year. We need your help in funding this program, no matter what time of year it is!
Please mail monetary donations to:

We sincerely appreciate anything you can do for this great cause! Thanks.
