What can you do to help?

Make a Donation – The goal of the Jingle Bells program is to raise money for people in need in Douglas County and surrounding counties. The majority of donations made to Jingle Bells are used to purchase food and toys for families during the holiday season. Additionally, there are donations made during the year to area food shelves and individuals in need.

This would not be possible without the support of many businesses and individuals. We appreciate any donation, no matter how big or small. If you would like to make a donation, you can either make a donation the night of the telethon (see Jingle Bells home page for more information) or you can make a donation online or by mail.

In addition, you can donate new toys for children. We ask that any toy donations be made prior to Friday, December 7th when the area toy drop boxes are picked up. See toy donations for more information.

Food Basket and Toy Deliveries – Many volunteers help box and deliver food and toys to families for the holiday season. Last year, there were approximately 650 families who received food and toy baskets in Douglas County and surrounding counties. The deliveries are set up in routes, which typically consist of 5-10 deliveries within the same geographic area.

If you are willing to help box food and/or make deliveries, please come to the Alexandria Opportunities Center on Sunday, December 9th at 9:00 am. After boxing the food, the routes will start being loaded and delivered at approximately 10:00 am. We appreciate any and all volunteers, as this is a big job that we could not do without the help of others!

Toy Sorting – This involves sorting toys into bags for each family based on age, gender, and specific requests. If you would like to help, please come to the Alexandria Opportunities Center on Saturday, December 8th at 9:00 am.

Join the Jaycees – The Jingle Bells program is organized by the Alexandria Jaycees, which is a group of individuals dedicated to making the community and surrounding area a better place to live. Although Jingle Bells is the largest event held during the year, see the calendar of events for other community involvement. We are always seeking new members, so if you are interested in becoming involved, please see membership.
